Frequently Asked Questions of Propective Volunteers:

What is the time commitment involved in volunteering with Junior Achievement?

The JA Economics course is the only program that runs for an entire semester.

Is there a specific day and time I have to do the program?

The day and time of the program is worked out between the teacher and the volunteer.

I haven’t been in a classroom for many years, how will I feel comfortable?

Junior Achievement holds a training session for all new volunteers to make you feel comfortable going into the classroom. At this training you will learn techniques and general information about your program and the students. Any questions you may have will be answered there.

How will I control the students if they will not listen to me?

The classroom teacher is an integral part of the program and will be in the classroom at all times. We ask these teachers to handle the discipline when needed. They are also there to help if you have any questions. We encourage a classroom visit before you start your first program. During this visit, you will get a feel for the overall personality of the class. This will also make you feel more comfortable when you go in to teach the program.

What materials does Junior Achievement supply?

Junior Achievement will supply you with a program kit. Within this kit you will find all the materials for each activity you will be doing. In addition to these materials there will be a manual for you and the teacher. This manual will instruct you on the activities step by step (It is imperative to be prepared before entering the classroom.) It also contains certificates to give the students at the conclusion of the program, table tents that enable you to the student’s first names, and a JA banner to display in the classroom.
